EMDR
One of the key therapeutic approaches I use is EMDR.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a form of psychotherapy that has proven highly effective in treating individuals struggling with the aftermath of trauma, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The premise of EMDR is the idea that traumatic experiences can lead to the maladaptive encoding of memories. In simple terms, these memories get ‘stuck’ in the brain, causing distressing symptoms to persist long after the event has occurred. This is particularly true for individuals who have experienced significant or repeated traumas.
EMDR aims to help the brain “unstick” and reprocess the memory properly so that it is no longer so intense. It also helps to desensitise the person to the emotional impact of the memory, so that they can think about the event without experiencing such strong feelings.
I have completed levels 1,2 and 3 of the EMDR Europe Standard Training.
